Biking Essentials for Every Ride

The cold has finally disappeared bring with it sunshine and the warmth of spring. With Spring weather finally here, biking is becoming more popular. Whether you’re a beginner to biking or a veteran, be sure that you have the essentials you’ll need when for a successful bike ride!

Food and Water

Staying hydrated is probably the most important thing to remember when riding! Whether you’re prefer a type of hydration pack or a water bottle, making sure you have enough water in your system will help make your bike ride an ease. Don’t forget to stop and refill when you’re out of water.

Along with staying hydrated make sure you’ve got enough energy to make it through your ride! Try and avoid your body running out of fuel! Your body can last a little over an hour before needing to refuel. Pack cereal bars, granola bars, or other snacks, around 150-200 calories, to help keep your body fueled up and ready to go!

Proper Attire

No one wants to deal with the hassle of clothes that aren’t fit for a ride. Be sure to dress appropriately for whatever kind of ride you’re preparing to take. There’s a huge variety of biking clothing out there; different fabrics, styles and colors. Find what works best for you. Whatever you opt for, do not forget the needed safety attire; your helmet and some for of safety glasses of some form, to help keep the dust and bugs out of your eyes. (Yes sunglasses count.)

Bike Maintenance Equipment

There’s nothing worse than being stuck with a flat tire while on your ride! Be sure to take essential maintenance equipment for your ride, especially if you’re going off the beaten path. There are many tire pumps available that will fit to the frame of your bike that can be added to your gear for those instances when you have a flat tire. Add a pump and a few patches to your pack or seat bag, in cases of a punctured tire. It’s not enough to pack these items, but learn how to use them!

Bike Safe

With the warmer weather that Spring has brought us comes the amazing opportunity to get out there and ride! Make the most of your ride by preparing in advance with everything that you might need for your ride! The more prepared you are the better your ride will be!
